Net Volleys
Many payers are told that they swing too much on their volleys. Usually this verbal feedback does not solve the problem for most of them. It is better to be able to give them some other type of feedback. Specifically kinesthetic feedback which deals with the knowledge players have of the position of their body, and the movements they have just performed.
By using a court divider net with the player positioned on the other side and very close to the net, the pro can feed the player volleys with the goal of having the player hit the volley back without making the net move much at all.
I have found that this simple exercise is very effective in helping players discover if they have too large of a swing (specifically their follow through) on their volley. The pro can move the player to the other side of the net and place him with his back up against the net and repeat the drill to allow the player to discover if his back swing is too large.
Give this drill a try and watch your volley improve big time.
