Phil Dent

Phil Dent is a former professional tennis player from Australia. He is best remembered for reaching the men's singles final at the Australian Open in 1974, where he lost to Jimmy Connors 7–6, 6–4, 4–6, 6–3. Dent was also a men's doubles champion at the Australian Open in 1975 (partnering John Alexander), and a mixed doubles champion at the US Open in 1976 (partnering Billie Jean King). Dent also reached five further Grand Slam men's doubles finals, finishing runner-up at the Australian Open in 1970, 1973 and 1977, and at the French Open in 1975 and 1979. He was a member of the Australian teams which won the Davis Cup in 1977 and the World Team Cup in 1979.

Currently Phil Dent is a top-level tennis coach in Los Angeles. His coaching accomplishments include teaching and coaching his son Taylor Dent, a tour player, formerly ranked as high as #21 in the world. Taylor owns the 4th fastest serve (151 mph) ever recorded on the ATP tour. Phil Dent has worked with many other tour players, including Michael Chang and Maria Sharapova.
