Continental Forehand - McEnroeThe universal grip, in that one can (and McEnroe did) use it for the volley, the serve, the forehand, and backhand. Reference points: The hand is toward the top of the racquet, the V of the thumb and forefinger are on the top bevel (line 1).
Point of contact: at the belly button. Optimum contact height: Knee level to bellybutton. Feel: A flat or even underspinning hit, less racquet head speed than the semiwestern, blocking and touch more than power and disguise. Pros and cons: A great all around grip for the net rusher, but never associated with topspin forehand weapons. Very good on balls below knee level. Can be used for the one handed backhand. |
