Get a Grip

Western Forehand - Roddick

The extreme forehand grip. The hand rotates under the racquet one eighth turn from the semiwestern position, "V" of the hand is between line 3 and 4.

Reference points: Palm is entirely beneath the handle.

Point of contact: Well in front of the body.

Optimum contact height: Above the waist to above the shoulder.

Feel: Extreme racquet speed, contact way in front, massive topspin, higher point of contact.

Pros and cons: A ton of spin, running around the backhand. Ideal on the claycourt circuit. No clue at the net.
