Doug King
Doug King, the Tennis
Director at Meadowood Resort Hotel in the Napa Valley, was born and raised
in the Northern California Bay Area where he played junior tennis, earning
a national ranking in the 18's and then going on to play #1 singles and
doubles and to captain the U. C. Berkeley Tennis Team in 1974 and 75. After
graduating, King played the pro tour for about 5 years, earning a #1 ranking
in Northern California and winning the California State Championships in
1979.
Doug has been teaching tennis since 1980 and has been the Director of Tennis
at Meadowood, a private club and luxury resort in St. Helena in the heart
of the world famous Napa Valley, since 1984. He lives in St. Helena with
his wife and two children, all of whom enjoy tennis. King enjoys the opportunity
to work with people of all levels and backgrounds.
"For me, teaching tennis is two things; one is a love of an fascination
with the hitting and the moving of the game. There is nothing quite like
running hard for a shot, setting it up, and smacking a solid ball, and then
trying to do it over and over again. Secondly it is people; observing people,
communicating with people, getting to know them and helping them to improve.
It is truly a privilege, a joy, and a challenge, to play and teach tennis,"
states King.
