At contact, both of your feet should be off the ground (see first photo below). (This may not be easy to do initially but with practice it will be very useful.) Your legs should be fully straight and your arm fully extended. Your contact point should be to the right of your shoulder about half an arm's length. Your racquet head will open just enough to surround the ball. At the moment of contact this picture looks like I have hit the ball squarely, but in fact I'm cupping the ball. Your wrist should have uncoiled at this moment. It may be difficult to tell from this angle but you should be leaning into the court a great deal. The ball should be even farther out in front. Please be certain to hit the ball well in front. Rotator cuff injuries occur when players do not hit the ball far enough in front of them. After contact, you should be landing in the court in the direction of the target. You may land on your left or right foot depending on what is more comfortable for you.
