Introduction

After hitting a wide shot off of either my forehand or my backhand, my focus becomes two-fold while my shot is making its way toward my opponent's side of the court.
  • I need to make as much progress and as quickly as I can towards the middle of the court, in case my opponent's next shot goes to the opposite side of the court.
  • I need to move back towards the middle in as balanced a manner as possible, in case my opponent hits behind me.
So how do I reconcile these seemingly contradictory goals? Very simple! Get a good cross over step immediately after hitting your shot.
