Rule of the Week (3/15/97)

"Can you play with both hands?"

Every week TennisONE will respond to a frequently asked question about the rules of tennis.

Rule of the Week Question

I have a quick question that if you can answer it will resolve a little debate between a friend and myself. If a person is able to play tennis right and left handed, is it legal to serve with her left hand and then play the point using her right hand?

Answer

Yes, it's legal. Luke Jensen on the Men's ATP tour does this sort of thing all the time. You can only hit the ball once, but it doesn't matter if you switch hands to hit it each time.
