Rule of the Week (5/15/97)

"Injury timeout?"

Every week TennisONE will respond to a frequently asked question about the rules of tennis.

Rule of the Week Question

What's the rule for an injury time-out? How long is the time-out and do you get to warm-up after the time-out?

Answer

First, the only time an injury time-out can be called is for a true injury. Play can not be suspended just to allow a player to recover his breath or physical condition. A one-time 3 minute time-out is allowed. There is no warm-up allowed after this 3 minute time-out.
