Rule of the Week (6/1/97)

"Receiver Hit by Ball"

Every week TennisONE will respond to a frequently asked question about the rules of tennis.

Rule of the Week Question

My opponent hit a serve that was way out. But it was going so hard I couldn't get out of the way and it hit me. Do I lose the point?

Answer

Yes, I'm afraid you do. The only exception to this rule is if ball on the serve is a let (touches the net, strap, or band) and hits you before it touches the ground, the point is replayed as a let.
