Conclusion
Finally, a word about strategy and placement. A common error players make
is attempting to hit their volleys hard. A much better goal is to aim deep
in the court with medium pace. Not only is this a higher percentage shot,
but also the deep volley will be more difficult for the opponent. When deep
volleys stay low they are more difficult to lob, and the opponent has less
time to judge the bounce. The first volley you hit, as you are closing in
for the putaway, is often the most challenging, and one that should be definitely
placed deep. Once you command the net, your next volley can be angled for
a winner.
Remember -- excellent posture, soft hands, elbows in, move to the ball.
