2. The Right Way to Approach to Hit the Approach Shot
The number one goal is to execute the first shot in a sequence properly.
That means setting up early. Notice here I'm inside the baseline, already
setup in a balanced position, ready to attack this short ball with a forehand
slice. Notice I'm clearly focusing on the ball - rather than where I'm going
to hit it. It's also important that you follow through all the way and position
the ball properly to setup your volley. If you hit your approach right back
to your opponent, you're saying, "Lob me, pass me, kill me." The
whole idea is to throw your opponent off-balanced so he or she won't hit
such a good passing shot.
