7. When to Split-Step
If you're a beginner or intermediate player, you should execute your split-step
when your opponent is setting up for his shot. As you can see in #1, I'm
slowing my forward momentum as I approach the service line. In #2, I'm executing
my split-step while my opponent still has his racquet back in preparation
for his shot. Now that I'm set, I can react to the ball properly,
and in this case (#3), move in to hit a drop volley or volley into the open
court.
