In the pictures below, I am closing on the diagonal towards the net, just
about to hit. My net position is excellent, contact is well above the net,
and my body momentum is forward, adding power to my shot. Notice that my
wrist has placed the racquet exactly behind the ball. There is a phrase
teaching professionals often use with their students, "Keep the
ball and the court in front of you." The first picture shows just
that. As I study the ball just prior to impact, I can also see the entire
court before me. This facilitates offensive volleying as I can see all my
targets and watch the ball at the same time.
