Introduction

In this modern era of power tennis, a shot that we seldom see is the defensive lob. But the purists only have to remember the great champion Jimmy Connors to know that this high arcing shot was (and still can be) very effective. When your opponent has claimed a good position at the net, and you are meeting the ball well behind the baseline, throw up a high lob, scramble back to a good ready position, and get back into the point.
